Over 250 years ago Alexander Pope wrote ‘To err is human, to forgive is divine’.
And recently I read Rules for Human Beings. I found both of these statements interesting. See what you think.
Rule 1. You will learn lessons
Rule 2. There are no mistakes only lessons.
Rule 3. A lesson is repeated until it is learned
Rule 4. If you don’t learn the easy lessons, they get harder
Rule 5. You know you have learned your lesson when your actions change.
Failure is simply the price we pay for success. How often we let failure stop us from achieving our goal? However if we used our past experiences as learning posts then we will have a greater knowledge base to go forward with. A change in attitude to failing will propel you to greater and greater opportunities. This in turn, if you choose to, will give you the life you want.
So why is the first statement, ‘To err is human, to forgive is divine’ so important to understand? Think of this, how often have you really given yourself a caning because you did something you considered ‘wrong”? But, if you chose to think of the experience as a lesson, and then learn from that lesson, then you can forgive yourself. You will not waste time worrying and feeling bad about the experience. You will see it for what it is, learn from it and move on.
Have a great day full of learning experiences, and know that you are failing forward.
God Bless,
Irena
