The way we think determines what actions we take. Sometimes our actions or should I say re-actions are based on things that have happened in the past and the process goes past the thinking process and straight to the action process. We bypass the thinking and react.
I noticed that with my behavior and I started to take the time to see why some of my actions were not producing the results I wanted, Dr Phill. has a great question that makes you stop and think, the question is “How is that working for you?” There is no judgment in the question; it is purely a question to ask yourself if you want a different result.
Triggers, little actions that set off a thought process that that is habitual and reactionary. When you have completed the reaction, you say to yourself, I should not have done that, it was so wrong, why did I do that? It is my entire fault, or possibly we go on a different track, why did he make me do that, what could he have been thinking? on and on we go, shoulds, coulds, and if onlys. Not a great place to live.
Money is a misunderstood commodity; it is nothing more than a means of exchange; you want to provide food for your family, so instead of having a garden and producing your own fruit and vegetables we pay someone else to provide that for us. In this society we go to work so that we can have a variety of foods, have a house, and have the utilities we believe we need. These come at a price, so we have to work out our priorities and make decisions based on what we want.
Triggers, what kind of triggers have you got set up regarding money?
If I said to you:
let’s go on a holiday
let’s go and buy a car
let’s go to the shopping centre and go shopping
What is your automatic response?
What response would you come up with if you took the time to think?
Remember if you take guilt out of decisions, and treat it the way it is, then you do not need to make a decision right or wrong. It is only a decision, the question you need to ask yourself is: Will this decision lead me to the result I want?
If it does, then great, if it does not then you will need to rethink the decision and come up with a different solution.
Think about the result you want, little changes can make huge changes long term. Think about what you do with your money, are you using it as a tool or does your money rule the way you live?
Every day gives us the time to make changes if we want. We do not need to live ‘under the circumstance’.
Have a great day.
